LIFE-SOUNDLESS Project
The LIFE Programme has selected the proposal presented by the General Directorate of Infrastructures, Department of Development and Housing of the Junta de Andalucía Andalusian Government, Fundación CIDAUT and EIFFAGE INFRAESTRUCTURAS under the name of LIFE-SOUNDLESS Project. New Generation of eco-friendly asphalt with recycled materials and high durability and acoustic performance.
This project belongs to the European LIFE Programme (2014), specifically the line: “Projects within densely populated urban areas aiming to reduce the noise from roadways and other transport infrastructures through the use of low-noise road surfaces”
The principal goal of this project is to achieve the mitigation of noise pollution at source through acoustic characterisation and the design of sound-reducing bitumen mixes, that is to say, mixes that generate lower levels of sound emission. Furthermore, these sound-reducing surfaces have to exhibit durability levels similar to current conventional mixes. Lastly, the aspiration is to develop specification recommendations that comply with European standards in order to contribute to the adoption of European specifications for sound-reducing road surfaces.
Resulting from the design of sound-reducing bitumen mixes in the laboratory, an implementation of these developed mixes shall be undertaken on a real scale on roads A-376 and A-8058 where they cross the towns of Montequinto and Gelves respectively. On these roads we will assess the acoustic performance of the mix and its evolution over time (Close Proximity-CPX Method, Statistical Pass By-SPB Method, Acoustic Absorption, Mechanical Impedance, Macrotexture, among others).
